Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 1, 2026
At OpenAtelier, your privacy is fundamental to everything we build. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our writing platform. We believe your creative work is deeply personal, and we have designed our practices accordingly.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials. If you sign in through a third-party provider, we receive basic profile information as permitted by that provider.
Manuscript Content. We store the manuscripts, notes, character profiles, world-building materials, and other creative content you create within the Service. This content is stored solely to provide the Service to you.
Usage Data. We collect anonymized usage data such as feature usage patterns, session duration, and general interaction metrics. This data helps us understand how the Service is used and identify areas for improvement. We do not track the specific content of your writing for analytics purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to: (a) provide, maintain, and improve the Service; (b) authenticate your identity and secure your account; (c) communicate with you about your account, updates, and support requests; (d) analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns to improve the product experience; and (e) comply with legal obligations. We do not use your manuscript content for advertising, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to delivering the Service.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your manuscripts and creative content are encrypted at rest using industry-standard encryption protocols. All data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure with access controls, monitoring, and regular security audits. Data in transit is protected using TLS encryption. While no system is perfectly secure, we employ commercially reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
4. Your Content
We want to be unequivocal about this: we never read, sell, or share your manuscripts or creative content. Your stories are yours. We do not use your content to train machine learning models, and we do not provide access to your content to any third party. The only exception is when you explicitly choose to share your work through features we may offer, or when required by law through valid legal process.
5. Third-Party Services
We use a limited number of third-party services to operate the platform. These include authentication providers (to securely manage sign-in), cloud hosting providers (to store and serve your data), and analytics services (to understand usage patterns with anonymized data). We carefully vet our providers and require them to adhere to strict data protection standards. We do not sell or rent your personal information to any third party.
6. Cookies
We use essential cookies to maintain your session and keep you signed in. We may also use functional cookies to remember your preferences, such as theme settings and editor configurations. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, though this may affect your ability to use certain features of the Service.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to: (a) access the personal information we hold about you; (b) request correction of inaccurate information; (c) export your data, including all manuscripts and associated content, in standard formats; (d) delete your account and all associated data; and (e) withdraw consent for optional data processing at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@openatelier.co. We will respond to your request within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on the Service, updating the "Last updated" date, and, where appropriate, sending you a notification. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
10. Contact
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us at hello@openatelier.co. We take every inquiry seriously and will do our best to address your concerns promptly.
